Achieving mental wellness during quarantine

Tips for staying healthy

People all over the world have been quarantined in their house for months with no outside contact, no handshakes with strangers and no hugs from distant loved ones which means it’s easy to fall into a state of uncertainty, but it’s important to stay mentally healthy throughout this coronavirus pandemic.

This pandemic has left billions of people out of work, out of school and out of the public. Without seeing friends and loved ones, the toll on mental health can become dangerous to many lives. People are left feeling unconnected, lonely, and saddened\; however, there are many things to do to help guide through these difficult times.

This pandemic can cause people to lose their daily routine and become less productive, but it’s important for both your physical and mental health to stay productive and healthy. Some things to help stay productive is:

Create a schedule — when there’s no work or school, it’s easy to sleep all day and stay up all night, but that is not healthy. It’s important to set a daily routine and a sleep schedule, just like people would if life was normal. There are some apps, such as Google Calendar or Zenday, to keep life on track to ensure we are staying healthy and productive.
Accomplish healthy and productive activities — There are many activities to do during this pandemic to help keep us both physically and mentally happy. Go on nature walks, practice yoga, meditate, workout, or draw. All these things and more can keep us healthy and productive as we try and find certainty during this time.
Take Time Off — While it’s important to ensure we are staying productive, we also need to take necessary breaks from work, school, or other stressful activities to keep our minds healthy.

Not only is it important to stay productive, but it’s also crucial to keep in touch with loved ones. Although quarantine makes it hard to connect with family and friends, there are still many ways to have fun with them.

Virtual Games Over Video Calls — You and your friends can enjoy board game night over facetime with a few games, such as Scattergories, Codenames, and Trivial Pursuit. With technology, you can video call over Zoom, Google Meet, Google Duo, Skype, or Facetime. Although you’re not able to spend time with your loved ones now, you can still have fun on game night.
Social Distancing Movie Night — With a few apps, such as Netflix Party and Airtime, you are able to connect with loved ones while watching shows and movies. It’s a great way to catch up on your favorite shows with your favorite people while keeping a safe distance!
Group Video Calls — Video calling a friend or loved one is always fun, but it’s even more fun when you can video call in groups. Using the apps, Zoom, or Google Meet, you can chat and catch up with up to 100 of your friends and family.
No contact with friends, families, and even strangers can have an alarming impact on mental health, but that’s why it’s important to stay productive, healthy, and connected in our everyday lives even when we are quarantined.
