PHS Cheer team hosts virtual tryouts

With the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic causing everyone to have to quarantine themselves at home, this means more and more events and functions are being held virtually. One of those was Pewaukee High School cheer tryouts.

On Saturday, May 2, the PHS cheerleading team held tryouts via Zoom. The two days prior to these tryouts was where athletes interested would be sent out tryout material to learn that they would then perform for a few judges through the Zoom call on tryout day.

“Even though the tryouts were online, I still learned from them and it gives me an opportunity to practice over the summer,” incoming freshman, Lauren Greenwald, said. “I also would have liked to meet some of the other girls, but I wasn’t able to because of the current conditions.”

Both the JV and Varsity teams are planning on doing team meetings, workouts, and learning cheers over a group slideshow until everyone is able to get together in person.

“This year was a bit difficult because we had to learn material in a different way and perform it alone, but I am glad that we still could do them so we can start working with our teams,” Freshman Kayla Vorackack said.
