How to take care of yourself in quarantine

Quarantine is an unsure time in everyone’s lives. There is a lot of uncertainty going on in the world at the moment, and that uncertainty can take a toll on one’s mental health. It is crucial that everyone takes necessary precautions to make sure that they stay happy and healthy during this time in both body and mind.

The CDC has released some guidelines that may help those in need of ways to cope with stress. This list includes:
Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.

  • Take care of your body
  • Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate
  • Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals
  • Exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep
  • Avoid alcohol and drugs
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.

This compiled list can be crucial to staying happy and healthy during the pandemic. It is important to make sure that everyone takes care of themselves, but remember that everyone has bad days. Sometimes the day won’t be a productive stream of self care and stress relief, and that is okay too.

The most important thing to supplement is human interaction. It is something to be thankful for that we are experiencing this during a time in history where friends and family are just a phone call, FaceTime, or message away, and human interaction is the most crucial of all things to focus on.

We all are adjusting to this new lifestyle, but it is important to make sure that you not only check up on others, but yourself too. Social distancing is saving lives, and you deserve to stay happy and healthy while doing that good work.
